the sign says "long way ahead."
the turtle has read the sign.
the turtle is sweating. the backpack is heavy. the start flag is barely behind them. there is a very long, very winding road stretching out in front of them that by all reasonable estimates is going to take a while.
and the turtle is still going.
that's the whole thing.
not the finish line. not the pace. not whether it looks impressive from the outside or whether anyone else would have started this particular journey in the first place.
just the fact that they started.
starting is the hardest part. not because the road ahead is easy — clearly it is not — but because starting means committing to something before you know how it ends. before you know if you have what it takes. before you can see around the next bend.
you started.
sweaty headband and all.
that counts.
started. that counts.
