The tallest oaks aren't the ones with the most impressive branches. They're the ones with root systems that stretch two to three times wider than their canopy, buried deep enough to survive a hurricane that would take down a younger tree in seconds.
Nobody sees the roots. Everyone sees the height, the shade, the size of the thing — and assumes that's the whole story. It never is. Whatever's holding you up when things get loud usually isn't visible from the outside either.
