Punctuation changes everything.
A period says: this is finished, closed, done. A comma says: there's more coming, hold on, keep reading. Same pause. Completely different meaning.
That thing that just happened to you — the ending, the loss, the plan that fell apart — you get to choose which mark goes after it. It can be the period you've been treating it as. Or it can be a comma, a breath before the sentence keeps going somewhere you can't see yet.
